I fell in love with the fauvist movement from the moment I first lay eyes on its paintings. What’s not to like about a movement whose name translates to wild beasts! The fauvists were able to take something consider so fundamentally wrong at the time and make it right. They freed up colour which is something I’m thankful for every time I pick up a brush.
Here are some of my “fauvist” paintings along with some of the paintings by the masters themselves.
London: St paul's Cathedral seen from the Thames by Andre Derian
Portrait of my father
Portrait of Henri Matisse by Andre Derain
